Possible New Website Features
The following features are being considered or are possible for the website. Discussions are ongoing with the executive regarding these features. A survey may be used in the future to see what features the membership may use. Nothing is decided yet or even in place. Some have been tested and some members may have seen results of that testing.
Surveys:
This could cover such areas as changes to policy, member satisfaction, dress standards, hot topics, and many more. The surveys can be run as open, private, need a key etc. (The key would be emailed to you and is unique for each person and can be used only once.
Email Addresses:
It can be arranged for each member or just executive/board to have their own cabua.ca email address. (Yes I know, another email address!). It may make things easier for long term goals.
Forums:
Full discussion forums on any topic and can also be setup to have private forums to allow members of a committee to have a common gathering point.
Folders/storage:
Folders on the server hosting the website can be setup for various committees etc to have a common place to put their documents and share their documents. These can be either fully password protected and encrypted or open.
They could also be used for putting backups of files like the umpire database etc.
Mailing Lists:
A list system to insure that everyone is on the list and gets all emails. It would also make sure that there is one common point for emails to be sent from. This would be an opt out opt in system. If you decided to opt out you would not get any messages from the system. This list system can be broken into groups such as Executive, All Members, course participants etc etc etc. The list can be setup to allow anyone to send email to anyone or just certain individuals to be able to send to the membership. A lot of flexibility.
Forms:
Much more control over forms and data entry. Online database for example which collects the data from forms.
Realms:
Fully protected webpages which can be accessed only with a username/password combination. This would allow for CABUA members only webpages for such things as contact details etc.
Logging:
More logging options for website traffic so we can know where we get hits from etc.
Public FTP space:
For files we wish anyone to be able to download by ftp if they so wish.
Web Calendar:
WebCalendar is a PHP-based calendar application that can be configured as a single-user calendar, a multi-user calendar for groups of users, or as an event calendar viewable by visitors. MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, Interbase, MS SQL Server, or ODBC is required.
WebCalendar can be setup in a variety of ways, such as...
A schedule management system for a single person
A schedule management system for a group of people, allowing one or more assistants to manage the calendar of another user
An events schedule that anyone can view, allowing visitors to submit new events
A calendar server that can be viewed with iCalendar-compliant calendar applications like Mozilla Sunbird, Apple iCal or GNOME Evolution or RSS-enabled applications like Firefox, Thunderbird, RSSOwl, FeedDemon, or BlogExpress.Wiki:
A WikiWikiWeb is a web site where anyone can edit the pages through an HTML form. Linking is done automatically on the server side; all pages are stored in a database.
This may sound rather simplistic, but a Wiki is a very unique way to collaborate on the Web.
And much much more is possible. Remember these are possibilities not final things in place.
